Parent Empowerment Program (PEP)

The Illinois Family Defense Center will hold it's monthly Parent Empowerment meeting in Chicago on Wednesday, July 25, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

PEP Nights are a chance for parents to meet other parents who have had DCFS, juvenile court, or other child welfare system involvement in their families and want to work with the FDC to advocate for change. Please RSVP by 5:00 p.m. on July 25 if you would like to attend.

Open to all families having contact with Illinois DCFS agents. This meeting will be held each month. Please call for more information.

Texas Child Protective Services Investigation

The Health and Human Services Commission's Ombudsman Office, in conjunction with the Office of the Inspector General, has established a toll-free line for people to report complaints in response to Gov. Perry's ordered statewide investigation into the practices and procedures of Child Protective Services.

To help prepare for the hearing and provide general information and help resolving problems. Email requests to schedule an appointment to speak to a certified family rights advocate. Please confirm your attendance no later than Monday 12 noon by email.

We will be helping prepare parents for the legislative hearings and providing general information to help with cases involving CPS - don't miss out on this opportunity to get FREE help from experienced parents who have been in similar situations!

Robin will be at the workshop to help parents. She is a trained certified family rights advocate and has extensive experience in dealing with CPS cases.

Adoption Study

Harris Interactive, on behalf of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, in conjunction with the North American Council on Adoptable Children, is conducting an important study to better understand your attitudes and opinions on foster care adoption.

This study will compare your attitudes and personal experiences with foster care with those who have much less experience with the system. Understanding the difference will help us to improve our communications about foster care to the general public.

The survey will take no longer than 25 minutes to complete. Please take a moment to share your opinions and make a difference!

Media Spokesperson -- Must be an ardent spokesperson and a true believer. Represent Kidjacked by writing official press releases, sitting for media interviews, public appearances and radio broadcasts. Must be witty, sharp, personable and tough as nails. E-mail inquires to: Kidjacked.

Co-editor -- A successful candidate would assist the editor in preparing documents for publication. Must have excellent English skills, including but not limited to: spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. The ideal person would be available late in the evenings and have no life (like me). Articles Wanted -- Tell your story, or gather facts, and compile them. Collect links to submit (be sure to tell me where you think it should go). Submit your child's letter home. Make up a name, or submit it using initials or boldly tell it like it is. Please use sentence case and paragraphs, have a friend read it or someone on the Kidjacked list help proof it. Other Volunteer -- Do you have a skill that you are willing to lend to the cause of ending foster care? Are you a budding graphic artist with some ideas? We have the technology.
